Kathryn was the ideal writer to author Harriet Snowball Winspear’s biography because she herself exemplified the sociability which equally inspired Harriet to love family, friends and the developing community of Edmonton and to join them together in fun as often as she could.Indeed, Harriet comes to life in this book which illustrates her life in Western Canada with informative photographs which complement letters and oral interviews, the latter a specialty of the author. A strikingly double feature of the text is the lively and casual tone which matches Harriet’s personality and the depth of research which contextualises Harriet’s philanthropic actions and love of life without being intrusive. However, the appendices and index provide all the sources that readers might care to explore.
